Affinity Tutors – Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I see what qualifications a tutor has?

All tutors on our platform are experienced tutors and many are currently either teaching in schools across the UK or delivering extra tuition. You can search for a tutor and view an in-depth profile that outlines any qualifications they have, their specialism, experience and availability.

2. How long are the sessions?

The length of the session will vary depending on the tutor. The length of each session will be displayed on the tutor’s profile and you can also discuss this during your free trial.  

3. What do I have to provide for the session?

Our classrooms are set up automatically and run through an internet browser, so there’s nothing to install. All you need is a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam and good internet. The tutor will let you know if the student needs anything specific resources for their lesson in the notes section of the booking.

4. Does the tutor have a speciality?

Our tutors are experienced in providing tuition to both primary and secondary pupils. If they are specialists within certain areas (such as subject or age-based) this will be included on their profile.   

5. How do I pay for the sessions?

The pricing varies depending on the tutor. We are transparent about the costs; every tutor will display their hourly rate will be visible on their profile.

You will be able to add credit to their account before the lesson, using a debit or credit card. After the session, the correct amount of credit is automatically transferred to the tutor. You will be able to top up credit anytime on a pay-as-you-go basis.

6. How do you measure progress?

All online lessons attended by a student are automatically logged and can be saved and shared by the tutor. The tutor can add notes on the details page after each session and you can also exchange messages with the tutor about the progress of the student. As the parent/guardian, messages you send to tutors are not visible to the students.

7. Will I be able to contact you outside of the lessons?

Yes, if you need to contact the tutor outside of the lesson you will be able to do this via the messaging portal. You will also receive an email notification to the email address you registered with. For safeguarding reasons, you will be able to view all messages and files exchanged between the student and the tutor. 

8. Do the tutors have up-to-date curriculum knowledge?

Every tutor on the system has up-to-date curriculum knowledge with many currently within UK-based classrooms. They will have a good understanding of the content currently being taught and this complement the extra tuition taking place within the online tutor room.

9. How do I schedule a lesson?

You can schedule a lesson by messaging the tutor. Any lessons scheduled will appear in your and the student’s account.

10. How much notice do I have to give if I need to cancel a session?

We ask Guardians/Students to give 24 hours’ prior notice to the Tutor when wanting to cancel or reschedule a tutoring session. If it’s out of the 24-hour window it will be at the tutor’s discretion if they can rearrange for a later date. Lessons not attended by the student without giving prior notice to the tutor shall be charged at the full rate.
