Psychology Graduates & Students – Start Your Career as a SEN Teaching Assistant

Make a lasting difference in the lives of children with autism and complex needs.

Are you a psychology graduate or student looking to apply your knowledge in a practical, rewarding environment? We’re seeking passionate SEN Teaching Assistants to join our partnered school in the Fishponds area – rated Outstanding by Ofsted for being “a place where pupils feel safe, secure, and understood” setting where pupils are celebrated for who they are.

This is your opportunity to bridge theory and practice: to use your understanding of child development, behaviour, and learning to support children with autism and other complex needs. You’ll gain invaluable experience that can shape your future career in psychology, education, or therapy.

Why This Role is Perfect for Psychology Graduates

  • Apply psychological concepts such as behaviour management, developmental theory, and communication strategies in real-world settings.

  • Gain practical experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and complex needs.

  • Work across five specialist sites – Infants, Juniors, Secondary, Sixth Form, and Alternative Provision – giving you diverse exposure to different age groups and developmental stages.

  • Receive ongoing training and mentoring, including Team Teach and Trauma-Informed Practice, to complement your academic studies.

  • Build transferable skills in observation, intervention, and tailored support that will strengthen applications for postgraduate study or careers in clinical, educational, or occupational psychology.

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)

We’re Looking For Someone Who:

  • Is studying or has graduated in psychology (or a related field) and wants to apply their knowledge practically.

  • Is confident working with challenging behaviour and can adapt strategies to suit individual needs.

  • Can provide 1:1 or 2:1 or classroom tailored support to help pupils reach their potential.

  • Demonstrates strong communication and behaviour management skills.

  • Is proactive, resilient, and enthusiastic about inclusion.

  • Is committed to continuous learning and professional growth.
