Two employees from Affinity Workforce are walking the length of Hadrian’s Walk to raise money for Temwa, a charity offering sustainability support to people in Malawi.

 

Chris Carter and Chris Pender from Affinity Workforce’s sister company, CER Education, are donning their walking boots to raise £2,000 to support Temwa’s education-based projects.

 

The coast-to-coast challenge will cover more than 86 miles along the ancient Roman wall and will consist of four days of intense trekking, camping overnight, and a net climb of 1300 metres to raise money for primary-and-secondary-aged children can easily access the education they need and deserve.

Many children and young people in Malawi have to walk miles to school every day so they can have an education.

 

Gresham Nkhata and Maida Kamanga, both from Munkhoza village, attend the Chilawa Reading Camp. They walk a distance of 5.29 kilometres to school at Chikwina Primary, that’s a total of 4 hours each day over a combined distance of 10 kilometres.

 

Having heard Gresham and Maida’s stories during a presentation delivered by Temwa, both Chris’ were inspired to take on the challenge and raise much-needed funds.

 

Chris Pender, Senior Recruitment Consultant at CER, explains: “Chris Carter and I have always had the ambition to complete a full Hadrian’s Wall walk and we’ve spoken about this years ago.

 

“When we met Jo and Kondwani from Temwa they both spoke so passionately about their efforts and projects in Malawi. They encouraged us to do what we can and this challenge seemed like a perfect opportunity to contribute”.

 

Temwa’s education-based projects such as providing secondary school bursaries, supporting literacy by providing education materials, libraries and reading groups, and promoting girls’ education struck a chord with AWS and its brands.

 

Chris added: “The more we become aware of the challenges in Malawi and the work that Temwa does, the more we both feel an overwhelming responsibility and urge to contribute, challenge ourselves and raise awareness across AWS.”
