About the Role:
Affinity Workforce are looking for a compassionate, dedicated, and experienced Special Needs Teaching Assistant (TA) to support students with Autism, sensory impairment, and challenging behaviour across multiple special needs schools. This exciting and rewarding role will involve working with children from both primary and secondary school levels, ensuring they receive the tailored support they need to thrive in an educational environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one and group support to children with Autism, sensory impairments, and challenging behaviour.
- Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and other tailored learning strategies.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment.
- Support the development of communication, social skills, and independence.
- Assist teachers and other staff in creating engaging, accessible learning activities.
- Help manage classroom behaviour using de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement.
- Monitor and track progress, reporting any concerns to relevant staff members.
- Encourage student engagement and participation in both academic and extra-curricular activities.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
- Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar role supporting children with special needs.
- A strong understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder, sensory impairment, and challenging behaviour.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children with special educational needs.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to implement individualised learning strategies and behaviour management plans.
- Ability to stay calm and use positive behaviour strategies in challenging situations.
- DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check or willingness to undergo one.
Desirable Skills:
- Knowledge of other special needs or additional qualifications (e.g., Makaton, PECS, or similar).
- Experience in supporting sensory needs or managing challenging behaviour.
