Making the most of a trial

Trialling a product or service before you purchase is a great way to try before you buy.

At Affinity Tutors, many of our tutors offer a free trial for new students. This allows the opportunity for tutors, students and parents to meet in the online Tutor Room to discuss tutoring requirements, ask questions and experience an online lesson.

It’s important you make the most of the opportunity, so you can make an informed decision. “What are the questions I should be asking,” we hear you say. Well don’t worry, we’ve put together a few tips you can follow to make the most of a trial:

Ask away!

The trial is your opportunity to ask the tutor questions about their experience, qualifications, availability and teaching style. Asking questions is the best way to get to know them so you can build a rapport.

Give them an overview

During the trial, explain why you are looking for extra tuition. Give the tutor an update on your child’s learning abilities and topics they need support with. This will give the tutor better insight into learning requirements.

Set goals

Once you explain the areas you would like the tutor to deliver, discuss outcomes your child is looking to achieve. The tutor will then be able to create a tuition plan for your child, so they can work towards their goals.

Use the technology

Your tutor will deliver a short lesson to show you how to use the different functions within the online classroom. Utilise this time to test the interactive whiteboards to co-view and co-edit learning resources.

Next steps

If you would like to book the tutor, discuss availability and book in the next few sessions. The bookings will be visible in your and your child’s calendar so can you manage the tuition sessions easily.
