Behaviour Teaching Assistant

Taunton, Somerset

Contract

Are you someone who genuinely wants to make a difference in a young person’s life? This role is an opportunity to join an alternative provision setting within the Cabot Learning Federation, supporting pupils who need patience, understanding and positive guidance.

We are looking for a Behaviour Teaching Assistant who can bring energy, empathy and consistency to the classroom. This is a setting where relationships really matter. Many of the pupils will have struggled in a mainstream environment, so your support will play a key part in helping them rebuild confidence and re‑engage with their learning.

What the role involves

You will be working closely with pupils who present behavioural, emotional or social challenges. Your day will involve supporting learning in small groups or one to one, helping pupils regulate their behaviour and encouraging positive choices. You will help create a calm and safe environment where pupils feel understood and supported.

You will also be assisting the teaching team in delivering lessons, guiding pupils through tasks, modelling positive communication and helping them develop independence. A big part of the role is simply being a steady and reliable presence that students can trust.

What we are looking for

You will need to be patient, confident and resilient. Experience working with challenging behaviour is helpful, but what matters most is the right attitude. You should be calm under pressure, able to build strong relationships and willing to adapt to whatever the day brings. Good communication skills and a genuine commitment to supporting young people are essential.

Why this role is rewarding

You will be joining a supportive team within the Cabot Learning Federation, working in an environment where every small breakthrough counts. No two days are the same, and you will see first‑hand the impact you can have on a young person’s progress, confidence and future. This is a chance to play a meaningful role in helping pupils overcome barriers and move forward in a positive direction.

If you are someone who believes in giving young people second chances and the support they deserve, this could be a great fit for you.
