SEND Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant

We are recruiting experienced and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistants to support pupils across Greenwood Academies Trust primary and specialist settings in Northampton.

This role is ideal for individuals who have previous experience working in a SEND school or specialist provision and are confident supporting vulnerable children with a range of needs, including SEMH, ASD, communication difficulties, and challenging behaviour.


About the Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant, you will:

  • Provide support to pupils with a variety of special educational needs
  • Deliver 1:1 and small‑group support tailored to pupils’ individual needs
  • Assist teachers with adapted learning, EHCP targets, and behaviour plans
  • Help pupils regulate emotions and build positive relationships
  • Support communication strategies for pupils with speech, language, or interaction needs
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams
  • Maintain a calm, structured, and nurturing classroom environment

Requirements

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Have worked in a SEND school or specialist provision (essential)
  • Have experience supporting vulnerable pupils with additional needs
  • Are patient, calm, resilient, and proactive in their approach
  • Can follow support plans and contribute to pupil progress
  • Have a passion for supporting children with SEN
  • Are confident managing challenging behaviour in a positive, supportive way
  • Have good communication and teamwork skills
