This is a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school within the Cabot Learning Federation. The school supports young people who have struggled to engage in mainstream education due to behavioural, emotional, or social challenges.
The setting provides a structured, therapeutic, and nurturing environment where students are supported to re-engage with learning, build positive relationships, and develop the skills needed to succeed in both education and the wider community.
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Youth Development Mentor to join the team. This role focuses on supporting students with SEMH needs, helping them regulate emotions, improve behaviour, and re-engage with learning.
The position is primarily based within the school, supporting students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, both in the classroom and through targeted pastoral interventions.
You will play a key role in building trusted relationships, acting as a positive role model, and supporting students with their personal development, engagement, and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
- Support students with SEMH needs in managing behaviour and emotional regulation
- Build strong, positive relationships with young people
- Deliver 1:1 and small group mentoring sessions
- Support students within the classroom environment
- Promote engagement in education and personal development
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff and pastoral teams
- Provide consistent, calm, and structured support
What We’re Looking For
- Experience working with young people, ideally within an SEMH, alternative provision, or youth work setting
- Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
- Ability to build rapport and trust with disengaged or challenging students
- Resilience, patience, and a calm, empathetic approach
- A genuine passion for supporting young people to achieve positive outcomes
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
