About the School

Brook Academy is a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) provision based in Gloucestershire. The academy supports young people who have faced challenges in mainstream education, often linked to behavioural, emotional, or social difficulties.

Brook Academy provides a structured, supportive, and therapeutic environment where students are encouraged to re-engage with learning, develop emotional resilience, and build positive relationships. The school takes a holistic approach, combining education with strong pastoral care and physical activity to help students grow in confidence, improve their behaviour, and prepare for life beyond education.

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Sports Mentor to join the team at Brook Academy.

This role focuses on supporting students with SEMH needs, using sport and physical activity as a key tool to engage students, build relationships, and support emotional and behavioural development. You will work closely with students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, both within the academy and through structured sports-based and pastoral interventions.

As a Sports Mentor, you will play a key role in building strong, trusting relationships and acting as a positive and active role model. You will use sport to promote teamwork, resilience, self-discipline, and wellbeing, while supporting students who may present with challenging behaviours in a calm and structured way.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Using sport and physical activity to engage and motivate students
  • Supporting students with emotional regulation and behaviour management
  • Delivering 1:1 and small group mentoring sessions, both in and outside the classroom
  • Encouraging teamwork, resilience, and positive social skills through sport
  • Promoting engagement, attendance, and personal development
  • Building strong, positive relationships with young people
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff and pastoral teams
  • Providing consistent, structured, and supportive guidance

Requirements:

  • Experience working with young people, ideally within SEMH, alternative provision, or sports/youth work
  • A passion for sport and its impact on young people’s development
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
  • Ability to build rapport with disengaged or vulnerable students
  • Resilience, patience, and a calm, proactive approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people to achieve positive outcomes
  • A full UK driving licence (essential)
