Supply Teaching in September

September is one of the busiest times in the school calendar — and a fantastic opportunity to start or continue your journey in supply teaching work. Whether you’re returning after a break or trying supply for the first time, now is the perfect time to get organised with Affinity Workforce so you’re ready to hit the ground running.

Here are our top tips to help you prepare and secure a placement before the new term begins…

1. Get Registered Early

Don’t wait until the term starts! Registering with Affinity Workforce now means we can begin matching you with roles before schools reopen. The earlier you’re onboarded, the more choice and flexibility you’ll have.

2. Refresh Your CV and Key Documents

Make sure your CV is up to date and includes:

  • Recent experience and relevant training
  • A valid DBS check (registered on the update service)
  • Proof of qualifications
  • Two professional references

Having these ready helps us place you quickly and efficiently.

3. Be Clear About Your Preferences

Think about what kind of roles you’re looking for:

  • Preferred year groups or key stages
  • Full-time or part-time availability
  • Travel distance or specific locations

Sharing this with your consultant helps us find placements that suit your lifestyle and goals.

4. Prepare a Supply Kit

A small bag with essentials can make your day smoother:

  • Pens, stickers, and a notebook
  • ID badge and lanyard
  • A whistle for playground duty
  • A USB stick with lesson ideas or resources

Being prepared helps you feel confident and professional from day one.

5. Brush Up on Key Skills

Take time to refresh your knowledge of:

  • Safeguarding procedures
  • Behaviour management techniques
  • Classroom routines and expectations
