About the School

This setting is a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) provision within the Cabot Learning Federation. It supports young people who have struggled to engage in mainstream education due to behavioural, emotional, or social challenges.

The school provides a structured, therapeutic, and nurturing environment where students are supported to re-engage with learning, build positive relationships, and develop the skills needed to succeed both in education and in the wider community.

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Youth Development Mentor to join the team. This role is focused on supporting students with SEMH needs, helping them to regulate their emotions, improve behaviour, and re-engage with learning.

The position includes both in-school support and outreach work, working with students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, both within the school environment and out in the community.

You will play a key role in building trusted relationships, acting as a positive role model, and supporting students with their personal development, engagement, and overall wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support students with SEMH needs in managing behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Build strong, positive relationships with young people
  • Deliver 1:1 and small group mentoring sessions
  • Support students both in the classroom and through outreach activities
  • Promote engagement in education and personal development
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external agencies
  • Provide consistent, calm, and structured support

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with young people, ideally within an SEMH, alternative provision, or youth work setting
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
  • Ability to build rapport and trust with disengaged or challenging students
  • Resilience, patience, and a calm, empathetic approach
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people to achieve positive outcomes
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Essential Requirement

  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (due to the outreach nature of the role)

Why Join

  • Be part of a supportive and forward-thinking team within the Cabot Learning Federation
  • Make a real difference in the lives of young people
  • Work in a dynamic and rewarding SEMH environment
  • Opportunities for ongoing professional development
