Be part of something brand new. Briarwood South, a specialist secondary SEN school opening in May in Knowle West, is looking for an experienced and energetic Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join its founding team.

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape a brand‑new provision created by Briarwood School, an Ofsted Outstanding setting known for exceptional practice and a strong, supportive ethos. We’re ideally seeking someone who can start sooner at the Briarwood site in Fishponds to gain hands‑on training and experience before moving to the new school.

About the Role

As a HLTA within the Interventions and Response Team, you’ll work closely with senior leaders and teaching staff to ensure pupils receive the right support at the right time. This includes stepping in during moments where students need immediate assistance, as well as delivering planned, targeted intervention sessions that promote academic, social, and emotional development.

In your class‑based work, you’ll take a thoughtful and flexible approach to each learner, adapting your methods creatively to suit a wide range of needs. Building strong relationships, staying calm under pressure, and maintaining a positive, engaging presence will be key to your success.

Your role will involve:

  • Leading tailored 1:1 and small‑group intervention sessions

  • Offering responsive support throughout the school day when pupils require additional help

  • Assisting with learning across the secondary curriculum

  • Collaborating with teachers, therapists, and wider staff to ensure consistent, high‑quality support

  • Contributing to the development of routines, expectations, and culture within a brand‑new school environment

What We’re Looking For

  • HLTA qualification or strong equivalent experience

  • Confident SEN practitioner with experience of complex needs

  • Skilled in behaviour support and communication strategies

  • Emotionally resilient, creative, and ready to help build a new school culture

  • Passionate about inclusion and personalised learning

Why Join Through Affinity Partnerships

  • Competitive pay and generous referral bonuses

  • Access to excellent CPD, including Team Teach and Trauma‑Informed Practice

  • Support from a dedicated consultant who knows the school well

  • Opportunities to work across multiple specialist sites

  • A strong focus on staff wellbeing and professional growth

  • Weekly pay and a smooth, supportive onboarding process

If you’re excited by the idea of helping launch a brand‑new SEN secondary school and making a real impact from day one, we’d love to hear from you.
