We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Youth Mentor to support young people within a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school setting in Bristol.

This is a highly rewarding role, working with students who may face challenges with behaviour, emotional regulation, and engagement in education. You will provide consistent support both within the school and through outreach across the local community, helping young people re-engage with learning and build positive futures.

The provision offers a structured, nurturing, and therapeutic approach for students who have experienced barriers in mainstream education. As a Youth Mentor, you will play a key role in building trust, boosting confidence, and helping students develop essential life skills.


Key Responsibilities

Student Support & Engagement

  • Deliver 1:1 and small group mentoring for students with SEMH needs
  • Build strong, trusting relationships to improve engagement, attendance, and wellbeing
  • Act as a positive role model, promoting resilience, respect, and independence
  • Support students to access learning both in and out of the classroom

Behaviour & Intervention

  • Support and implement individual behaviour and mentoring plans
  • Manage and de-escalate challenging situations using calm, consistent approaches
  • Deliver targeted interventions focused on emotional wellbeing and life skills
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback on student development

Outreach & Community Support

  • Provide mentoring support in community settings, alternative provisions, and schools
  • Travel regularly to deliver consistent off-site support
  • Support transitions, reintegration, and sustained engagement in education
  • Accompany students on enrichment activities and off-site opportunities
  • Work collaboratively with families, schools, and external agencies

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with young people with SEMH, SEND, or challenging behaviour
  • Is confident managing complex or difficult situations
  • Builds positive, professional relationships quickly
  • Is proactive, adaptable, and able to work independently
  • Is passionate about supporting young people to achieve positive outcomes

A full UK driving licence is essential (regular travel required)
