Meet Charlie: From Playing Fields to Placing Talent

“My name is Charlie Dangerfield, and I’ve been a Recruitment Resourcer since June 2023, now the Lead Resourcer for the Affinity Workforce Recruitment Team,” Charlie shares. His role is crucial: “We’re all about candidate pipeline creation. We find top-quality candidates – teachers, teaching assistants, and support staff – through various networks. Then, we pre-screen, interview, create profiles, and guide them through our compliance process to get them into work.”

Charlie’s background is surprisingly fitting: “I’ve been in sports and around schools my whole life. My mum was a childminder, so I’ve been around children since I was young. It ties in nicely, recruiting staff for schools.”

A Day in the Life: Early Starts and Focused Afternoons

Charlie’s dedication begins early. “My hours are 7-5, but I’m usually in the office by 6:45 am for a head start,” he explains. “I get set up, then first thing, I prioritise responding to any urgent messages. After that, I open my candidate tracker to see who needs what and who can move to compliance that day. Emails come next around 7am. I’m focused on getting things done.”

Mornings are about service: “I aim to provide the highest level of customer service. My current candidates hear from me first, even if it’s just a ‘Hey, how are you.’ Speed of recruitment comes from consistency, trust, and being on the same wavelength as your candidates.”

Afternoons involve strategy. “On Mondays, I go through job advert applications, emailing to book pre-screens for Tuesday. If applications are slow, I send direct messages and refresh adverts.”

Managing workload is key for Charlie: “I set realistic expectations. I’ve learned a lot, and while I still have challenges, I just work harder. I know I can’t fill every position immediately; Rome wasn’t built in a day.” Collaboration is important too. “I work closely with Hannah. Finding the right candidates involves territory analysis – knowing the school, area, and specific needs.”

Overcoming Challenges and Building Support

“My biggest challenge is often not having enough time to fill all positions,” Charlie admits. He reflects on his growth: “When I started, I wasn’t confident, but that experience now helps me train newcomers. I want to be the best resourcer.”

The team offers strong support. “As the only resourcer in the Affinity Workforce Recruitment Team, I rely on the Compliance team for questions,” Charlie says. “They’re essential to our success. For niche roles, it’s about getting detailed information from schools to find the right candidate during my dedicated ‘Golden Hour’ search time.”

Charlie credits Sophy Benjamin for her mentorship and the Compliance team for his development. “Sophy is someone I really look up to,” he shares. “And the Compliance team is always there to help; I wouldn’t be where I am without them.”

His favourite part of the Affinity Workforce Recruitment Team? “The togetherness when times are hard, and the positivity everyone shows.”

Impact, Rewards, and Future Growth

The most rewarding aspect of Charlie’s role is seeing candidates succeed. “I feel immense pride when a candidate goes Temp to Perm,” he smiles. “Or when a candidate says, ‘thank you for your support’ after starting their first day of work.”

Charlie’s career at Affinity Workforce has seen significant growth: “I’ve been promoted twice in two years and am now the Lead Resourcer. I strive to be a positive recruiter for my team!”

He highly recommends joining the Affinity Workforce Recruitment Team: “The togetherness of the team is fantastic, and the Education market is growing with Managed Service Providers. I look up to our senior management team, like Esme and Alex our CEO and COO, both former consultants, and that motivates me greatly.”

Charlie’s final advice is full of optimism: “The Recruitment Team is going places! We’re building for growth, and the career opportunities will be endless. I’m here for the long term.”
