Our Apprenticeship Scheme

This year’s theme is based around ‘Skills for Life’. We’ve been running our apprenticeship scheme through Monarch Education for the last 12 months. Our two apprentices, Ishmael Ali and Dylan Bagry, are still with us and thriving in their roles. They are both currently completing their Level 3 Business Administration qualification and are working across different teams to understand all functions across the business.

As part of the National Apprenticeship Week, we sat down with Dylan to give us an insight into his apprenticeship and time at Monarch Education so far.

Entering the Data Analyst World

Dylan took the first step in his career in November 2021 by joining our Birmingham branch. He has been a great asset to the team so far. Having always wanted to work in an office and learning best through a hands-on approach, Dylan knew an apprenticeship would be the best route for him. He is enjoying working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

He said: “You learn every skill possible that you wouldn’t learn at university. You don’t learn how to be in a work environment at university. As an apprentice, I do a bit of coursework and then put what I have learnt into practice in the office. This is how I learn the best.”

Learning on the Job

As part of his role as a Trainee Data Analyst, Dylan is responsible for analysing data and reporting for the company.

“I send out reports to the business in the morning and run daily figures. I am also responsible for running a dashboard and dealing with consultant queries. After lunch I do a bit of apprenticeship work.

“My apprenticeship coach allocates me time to do my coursework during the day, so I am able to switch off after I get home from work. This means I am occupied for my whole day.”

At Monarch Education, no two days are the same. Our apprentices are constantly interacting with new people and working on different tasks, which is something that is important for apprentices like Dylan.

Transferrable Skills

Apprentices at Monarch Education learn more than their role and the responsibilities that it brings. Working with our team has taught our apprentices transferrable skills they can use to excel in their careers.

Dylan explains: “Working here has made me more confident. I did not know what the workplace would look like. I felt comforted by the team and my confidence went up as I was socialising at work. I feel better working in the office now.

“Working here has helped me in the long-term and my communication skills have improved. I’ve changed the way I email people, making sure I am more professional.”

Supportive Team

Reflecting on his time at Monarch Education so far, Dylan believes it is the supportive team which has helped him adjust to his new work environment.

“The support is solid here because the compliance team helps me deal with certain tasks. I get help on the administration side and an apprenticeship coach helps me with my qualification. There isn’t anywhere I don’t have help, I’ve been supported in every area possible.”

Dylan sees himself working for Monarch Education in the future if given the opportunity to do so and hopes his apprenticeship gives him the skills for life that will help him thrive.
